State Law Allows Some Camp Buildings To Be Exempted From Being Inspected

In December of last year after a heavy snowfall, a newly built covered horseback riding arena at Rockbrook Camp for Girls off U.S. 276 collapsed.

Questions were asked about the building's construction and whether it had been inspected.

The Transylvania Times found state law allows for farm buildings and camp structures to be built without inspection from the Transylvania County Building Permitting and Enforcement Department.

Some local officials have concerns about the law that allows the exemptions, while others see it as addressing previously overly burdensome regulations.
