Embroiderers’ Guild

The Laurel Chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America will hold it next monthly meeting on Thursday, April 5.

The program will be the second part of the pulled thread Biscornu Pin Cushion, being taught by Kim Sanders. The April meeting will concentrate on finishing techniques for this project.

The chapter meets at Cummings United Methodist Church located at 3 Banner Farm Road in Etowah/Horse Shoe. Registration is 9:30 to 10 a.m. followed by a short business meeting and the program until noon.

Hearing Loss Association

The Brevard Chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) will hold its monthly meeting on Saturday, March 10, in the Carlson Conference Room of the Transylvania Regional Hospital in Brevard. Area residents of all ages who are experiencing hearing loss or who have family members or friends with hearing loss are welcome to attend these meetings. Feel free to join us at 12:30 to browse through helpful information, meet members and enjoy light snacks.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m.

The program for this meeting will feature Sharon Everett, MS CCC/SLP of Asheville Speech Therapy, who will discuss how speech therapy benefits adults with cochlear implants and hearing aids, including expectations of therapeutic intervention, benefits and insurance coverage.

Parkinson’s Support Group

The Brevard-Hendersonville Parkinson’s Support Group meeting will be on Tuesday, March 13, at 10 a.m., in the fellowship hall of the Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church, located at 249 E. Main St. in Brevard. There will be light refreshments, time for fellowship and presentations.

Project Linus

The local chapter of Project Linus, a national organization that provides handmade blankets to children in crisis, is sponsoring Make-A-Blanket Day on Saturday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is an opportunity to participate in creating blankets for seriously ill or traumatized children.

The event will be held at Eliada Home, 2 Compton Drive, Asheville. The Eliada Home campus is located 1.4 miles North of Patton Avenue off New Leicester Highway.

Sewing skills are not necessary as there will be instruction on “no-sew” fleece blankets. In addition, there will be an assembly line of volunteers using sewing machines to create quilts. Pisgah Forest Rotary Club

The March 14 meeting of the Rotary Club of Pisgah Forest will feature Brevard City Manager Jim Fatland and City of Brevard Director of Public Works David Lutz, who is in charge of fresh water distribution, wastewater collection systems and solid waste collection. They will co-speak on the topic of water and sanitation as it relates to Brevard.

The public is always welcome to attend the meetings, listen to the guest speakers and share a delicious buffet breakfast at the Pisgah Fish Camp every Wednesday at 8 a.m.
