Remembering Margaret Kimzey

Recently I began subscribing to The Transylvania Times. Reading about my town and county has led me to remember many special people. Among them is my high school English teacher, Mrs. Margaret Kimzey.
She was a superior English teacher who could make literature and poetry come alive. She enlisted my mother as a reporter for the Brevard High School newspaper, The Broadcaster, in 1943. At that time, the newspaper was printed on 8.5 by 11 inches of white paper with purple mimeographed ink. By 1964 when I became a BHS student, The Broadcaster was printed by The Transylvania Times on newspaper with newsprint. Mrs. Kimzey was still The Broadcaster sponsor. She inspired students. Several became professional journalists.
I was fortunate to have Mrs. Kimzey as my English teacher. Her outstanding contribution to our community extended beyond her classroom as evidenced by the many years she served as the BHS newspaper sponsor.
We owe a debt of gratitude to Mrs. Kimzey for her years of service in public education. What a wonderful legacy she left us!
