Updated: Deputy Shoots Hand During Dog Attack -Brevard NC

Transylvania County Sheriff's Office Deputy Josh Garren accidentally shot himself in the hand while attempting to fend off a dog attack around 5 p.m., Monday, according to Chief Deputy Eddie Gunter.

"The officer was responding to a disturbance call at a residence on East Fork Ford," Gunter said.

Gunter said that shortly after Garren arrived to the residence, a pit bull attacked him.

"He used his left hand in a defense maneuver to push the dog away but could not," Gunter said. "The officer was forced to shoot the dog with his service weapon, and sustained a non-life threatening gunshot woun...
