Transylvania Choral Society To Hold Spring Concert April 19

April 2, 2018

The Transylvania Choral Society, joined by the Brevard College Chamber Singers, will present its spring concert on April 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Paul Porter Center for the Performing Arts.

“Requiem in D Minor” by Gabriel Faure will be the featured offering. Faure wrote the piece between 1887 and 1890. It contains seven movements, which Faure described as “dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest.”

Under the baton of artistic director and conductor, Dr. David Gresham, Vance Reese will accompany the choral group on the organ. Soloists for the performance will be Katelyn Didio, soprano and Douglas Grim, baritone.

In addition to the Requiem, several shorter pieces will be performed. They include “Bright Morning Stars,” a Kentucky folk hymn, “Pilgrim Son,” a traditional American anthem, and “Through the Waters” with text from the Book of Isaiah.

Tickets for the performance are $10 each and may be purchased from a choral society member, online or at the door. Following the performance many of the Choral Society members and BC Chamber singers will depart for Carnegie Hall where they will perform the Requiem under the direction of Dr. Gresham.
