Farmers' Market Continues To Open 10-Noon In May

April 5, 2018

With colder mornings still frequent, the Transylvania Farmers’ Market continues its year-round schedule with 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. hours during the month of April. The market will go back to 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. summer hours the first Saturday in May.

This Saturday, April 7, the market may be open for just two hours, but there will be lots of great vendors selling local products, and it will be the first Saturday of the year that the Transylvania County Extension Office and Master Gardeners will be present.

Stop by their booth to sample Lemon Kale Salad made by the Extension Office’s dietetic intern. You can pick up a soil test kit and learn more about that process from the Master Gardeners. They will also be displaying worm compost bins and talking about how to start one of your own.

With a focus on the bounty that this area has to offer, the market should have 20 or more vendors at this Saturday’s smaller market, offering fresh, locally-grown produce, meat, eggs, honey, cheeses, vinegar, mushrooms, plants, baked goods, jams and jellies, prepared foods, teas and tinctures, and a variety of handcrafted and artisan items from local producers.

In order to allow vendors time to set up and to be fair to customers, there are no early sales until the market’s opening time.

The Transylvania Farmers’ Market is located in Brevard behind Comporium at the corner of Johnson and Jordan streets. Visit the website at
