Previous letter writers have mentioned the legal problems encountered over the years by Hospital Corporation of America (HCA). Not mentioned were various indicators showing HCA’s lack of commitment to the communities the company served. For example, HCA hospitals usually provided the lowest amount of indigent care in the communities they served. Their hospitals also usually had the highest cost per patient day and the highest cost per inpatient admission in the communities they served, indicating the cost of care could increase once HCA takes over the Mission system.
