The Transylvania Times -

See Off To Host Stories And Sundaes April 15

April 12, 2018

Isn’t there something wonderfully nostalgic about an ice cream sundae? Maybe your childhood memories of ice cream take you to a soda shop with a spinning stool at the counter. Or maybe you remember a crank ice cream maker and the anticipation of creamy coolness after the muscle work of turning that handle. Can’t you just feel those sticky drips on your hand as you race to lick the ice cream evenly all the way around so it doesn’t topple off the cone?

See Off Mountains neighbors want to help people recreate those warm (or icy cool!) memories on Sunday, April 15, at 3 p.m. at the See Off Mountain Community Center. Neighbors and friends will gather not only to share in a make-your-own ice cream sundae bar, but also an afternoon of story-telling and fellowship.

Stories and Sundaes on See Off invites current and former residents of See Off Mountain, as well as those interested in local history, to join in a circle discussion in order to know our neighbors better, encourage dialogue in the community, learn more about the history of our mountain home, and have fun together. All are welcome to attend, as storytellers or audience members. Parts of the event will be recorded, transcribed and archived at the Transylvania County Library.

Participants of all ages are encouraged to attend, and those interested in sharing their stories can consider these questions: How did you find your way to See Off Mountain? What memories do you have of living and growing up in this area? How have things changed? How have things stayed the same?

Any questions about the project can be directed to Shannon Rood at [email protected]
