“How long did it take to make that?” It’s an oft asked question of every artist. This month the artists at Number 7 Arts are prepared to tell all. What drove them to become an artist and why they focused on a particular medium or technique and style. Stop in at Number 7 Arts for Brevard’s first official Gallery Walk of 2018 for refreshments and answers to all your questions.

TC Arts Council will host the Transylvania County Student Art Exhibit with artwork by students in K-12 grade. At 5:15 p.m., the Davidson River Taiko Drummers will perform in the yard at the TC Arts Council followed by a musical performance by the Rosman Highlighters Chorus at 6 p.m. Red Wolf Gallery will feature new artwork by Keith Spencer. Artists at Work will feature musical entertainment with Gypsy and Me playing at the top of the stairs on West Main Street above the White Squirrel Shoppe. Enjoy music while looking at the artwork of Lucy Clark, Cathryn Cooper and friends.

Starfangled Press is a printmaking studio and gallery working with woodcut, etching, screenprint, lithography, and letterpress. A new exhibit by an emerging national artist opens each month with gallery walks. Stop by Steve Owen & Associates to congratulate Brevard’s award-winning teenager Alana Merrell. She was just accepted into the N.C. School of the Arts. Her paintings are on display in the lobby of Steve Owen & Associates.

Local Color has over 100 local artists: functional and visual art, jewelry, pottery, upcycled, clothing, and Fair Trade items. Stop by and get your free hug from Paul! Trade-Arama is an eclectic mix of art and vintage goods, including both contemporary and folk art, fine crafts and a blend of mid-century and other vintage furnishings. A few steps away is Gravy, an artisan and retail market benefiting The Cindy Platt Boys and Girls Club of Transylvania County.

Down in the Brevard Lumberyard Arts District: Join The Haen Gallery as they debut a new addition to their space this month. Over the winter, the old vault in the building was renovated and is now a room to showcase not only small works of art but also sculpture maquettes. This month, the vault will feature the concepts of sculptor Kyle Lusk. Visit the gallery to see these impressive works as well as new paintings and sculpture by Catherine Earle, Ursula Gullow, Kyle Lusk, Luigi Gatti, Rick Lazes, Toni Swarthout, J. Aaron Alderman, Mary Farmer, and other gallery artists. Located in the historic Brevard Lumberyard Arts District.

Near Magpie Meat & Three the Brevard First United Methodist Church’s Weekday Children’s Program will have an art show and sale. Art created by preschool children and their teachers will be featured and for sale. They will also feature a variety of art donated by local artists that will be available for purchase by silent auction.

All proceeds benefit the Weekday Children’s Program playground renovation and enrichment programs which include art and music. Magpie Meat & Three has generously offered to donate a portion of their sales to the preschool as well, so be sure to grab a bite to eat while visiting the show.
