Brevard Ballet Student Takes On Role Of Choreographer

August Barham, pictured here in the 2017 production of "The Nutcracker," has been studying ballet since third grade.

As a member of Brevard Ballet, August Barham is used to being told what ballet steps to take. Now the 18-year-old is letting the music tell her.

Barham, a Brevard High School student, is tackling the discipline of ballet choreography for her senior project. She has been invited by her project mentor, Brevard Ballet Director Angie Wells, to choreograph three pieces for the spring production of the ballet classic, "Raymonda."

Barham said an important first lesson has been learning to listen to the music.
