Once again, men can compete in the Dapper Dan and Mountain Man beard contest.

The Transylvania Farmers' Market is planning a spring celebration on Saturday, May 5, as it switches back to its regular hours of 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. that week.

The market will kick it into high gear with a fun and festive spring celebration that includes a best beard contest, live music, activities for the kids, and more.

Brush up your beards, gentlemen. The market is going to see who grew the best beard over the winter. Compete for prizes in

two categories: "Mountain Man" for the wild and wooly and "Dapper Dan" for the stylish man.

Sign up at the market information booth by 10 a.m. Judging and prizes will be awarded shortly thereafter.

Toes will be tapping all morning with bona fide mountain music by Crooked Pine.

Saturday, May 5, will also be the first day of 2018's Kids Corner. Children of all ages can stop by the market info booth each week for a different craft, scavenger hunt or fun activity.

With a focus on the bounty that Transylvania County has to offer, the market has more than 60 vendors offering fresh, locally-grown produce, meat, eggs, honey, cheeses, vinegars, pickled veggies, mushrooms, plants, herbs, cut flowers, baked goods, jams and jellies, hot breakfast items, coffee, prepared foods and a variety of handcrafted and artisan items from local producers. Throughout the season, the market will host weekly music and events.

The Transylvania Farmers' Market is located in Brevard at the corner of Johnson and Jordan streets. It is open on Saturdays through November from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
