New Gorges State Park Superintendent Robert McGraw has taken the torch of leadership from Steve Pagano, who was the first superintendent of the 8,000-acre park, retiring recently after 19 years.

McGraw received his bachelor's degree in parks and recreation management at Western Carolina University and has worked as a park ranger at Lake Norman, an advanced ranger at Gorges for three years and then as a superintendent for a year at Mount Mitchell.

"I started at state parks as a seasonal 15 plus years ago as a park attendant, working through college at WCU," McGraw said.
