Gun violence is one of those issues to which people often respond viscerally. There are vehement arguments but little rational discussion. As a result, animosity between those with differing opinions grows and the common ground diminishes. The intransigence reaches a point where people simply quit talking to those with different opinions.

Last Tuesday, April 24, a group of local citizens attempted to change that troublesome trend by discussing gun violence and how best to curb it. The panelists represented three different perspectives. By their willingness to serve on the panel, they also...
