The Transylvania Times -

Coverage Appreciated

May 14, 2018

I was deeply honored to receive this year’s AAUW “Women Who Make a Difference” award, especially among so many women who do indeed make such a difference to our county. And then, imagine my surprise to see the picture of me at the AAUW luncheon, with my friend Amye McCallie — there, in full color, on the front page of the May 10 issue of this paper. Matt McGregor did a really good job with this piece and took a nice picture.

I want to make only one correction to the article. I was not the “principle convener” of Transylvania County’s NAACP in 2014, but rather was one of 12 conveners of different racial, ethnic and gender identities who believed that a chapter of the NAACP could make a significant difference in this county. From the beginning the NAACP has been a collaborative effort on behalf of human rights and justice-making for all — and therein is its strength.
