Spring Planting? Buy Native Landscapes, Help Save The Wildlife

Planting a butterfly garden can be a fun way to engage kids and help them understand the importance of a good butterfly garden. Many local schools have their own gardens – educating students about the dangers of insecticides, pesticides, invasive species and more.

After a few fits and starts, spring is in full swing (with occasional flashes of summer).

For many of us, spring brings the feel of earth on our hands and visions of what we want our yards, gardens and land to look like – beds of red poppies or sunflowers, rows of heirloom tomatoes or corn stalks, vines of cucumbers destined for pickling. However, spring planting presents an opportunity to benefit wildlife as well. What and where you plant are decisions that can have meaning for the animals around us – from bumblebees to brook trout.
