Blue Devils One Win Away From Trip To State Finals

Brevard's Charles Kang (above) had a long battle in the Blue Devils' third round playoff match on Monday, defeating Shelby's James Mabry 6-4, 6-1 to help Brevard advance to their fifth straight 2A regional final match on Wednesday.

Facing their first true test of the playoffs, the Brevard Blue Devils passed with flying colors on Monday and are now just one game away from making a trip to their fifth straight 2A state championship match.

The challengers were the Shelby Golden Lions, who entered the match with an undefeated 10-0 record.

From the onset, it was clear the Lions were the best team the Blue Devils had faced so far in the playoffs.

However, a couple of key victories in singles play, along with a sweep of the doubles matches, gave Brevard the 7-2 win.
