Chicago Comedian And Brevard Native Thompson To Perform

May 21, 2018

Hobert Thompson

Hobert Thompson, a comedian from Brevard who is currently living and performing in Chicago, will be coming to Brevard to headline Brevard Little Theatre's Night of Comedy on May 23.

Hobert (known in his Brevard High School days as Zac) has performed around Chicago and beyond, making appearances at the N.C. Comedy Arts Festival; Spontaneous Combustion Festival in Atlanta, Ga. and Detroit Improv Festival. He has traveled with the Dopey Boys Comedy Tour and recently debuted his standup special "Hobert Thompson: Let's Write My Standup Special!" at Chicago's Storefront Theater. He is a member of the comedy team Droday, a creator of the podcasts "Desks & Dayjobs" and "Please Make This," and is one of the hosts of "The Chill AF Show," which is a popular weekly comedy show at Chicago's famed Second City Comedy Club.

Hobert will be joined by three other comedians: Raleigh's John Fowler and local comedians Jason Denton and Curtis McCarley. Fowler is a founding member of NCSU's improv collective CIA (college improv alliance), and a member of the improv group Biological Necessities, which performed at the Del Close Marathon in New York City and at the Spontaneous Combustion Fest in Atlanta. He can be seen doing standup and improv around Raleigh. Denton is from Hendersonville. In addition to standup comedy, he does improv with Gag Order and Killer Theater.

McCarley is also from Hendersonville. He started doing comedy in Asheville five years ago and has performed across the Carolinas. He is the organizer and host of Hendersonville's longest-running comedy showcase, "Comedy at the Bear," and he has opened for numerous national headlining comics.

BLT's Night of Comedy begins at 7:30 on Wednesday, May 23, at the theater on 55 E. Jordan St. The door will open at 7 p.m .; no reservations are needed. This event will be a fundraiser for Brevard Little Theatre, and there will be a suggested donation of $5. All four comics will perform a standup routine before banding together for a little improv at the end.
