Last Monday’s decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, a 1992 law that banned 46 states from legalizing sports gambling, will have wide-ranging ramifications. Some of them seem pretty clear while others may only become apparent years or months later.

To hear some professional team owners, the legalization of sports betting will be a panacea that will reverse declining fan interest and revenues.
