As a young woman living in Jersey City, N.J., Margaret "Peggy" Alma Fish decided that she wanted something to do. She was interested in joining a service organization.

On Jan. 26, 1948, her handwritten application, in duplicate, was received by the Registrar General, Ethel M. Tynes, at the DAR Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Her application was verified and approved on Feb. 6, 1948, based on her age being more than 18 years and her proof of direct lineal descent from Ephriam Fish, who had served as a private, corporal and lieutenant in the American Revolutionary War. Peggy was approved for membership by the National Board of Management on April 17, 1948.

Peggy Fish became Peggy Fish Langa on Oct. 1, 1950, when she married Paul Langa in Jersey City, N.J. The couple had a lovely formal wedding performed by Rev. F. Slade Danzoll in St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Following in their mother's footsteps, daughters Victoria and Melissa are also long-standing members of DAR. Although both live out of state, both are associate members of the Waightstill Avery Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution in Brevard.

During her 70 years of DAR membership, Langa has held many offices and served on a large number of committees. She is proud of her many years of service but admits that now, at age 90, she watches the younger members do the things that she has already experienced. Langa has been a role model for all.

Langa is regular in her attendance at the monthly DAR meetings and usually stays afterward for lunch in order to visit with other Daughters.

To celebrate Langa's 70 years of membership, Regent Sharon Jenkins presented Langa with red roses and President General Ann Turner Dillon's pin that signifies DAR's national theme: Moving Forward in Service to America. Chapter Registrar Marty Wainwright presented the honoree with a copy of her original application.
