Europe Leads On Tech Privacy

Nearly 20 years ago, in January of 1999, Scott McNealy, the chief executive officer of Sun Microsystems, said consumer privacy issues are a “red herring.”

“You have zero privacy anyway. Get over it,” McNealy said.

While many were aghast at McNealy’s comments, it was one of those moments of candor when an executive expressed what he perceived to be the truth. We have since learned that he was more honest or accurate than many of his counterparts.
