Celebrate National Trails Day This Saturday

Views like this one from the Appalachian Trail are only experienced from the middle of nowhere. Access remains an important issue for many people across the country.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the creation of the National Trails System, and on Saturday the American Hiking Society is celebrating its 26 year celebrating National Trails Day, a nationwide volunteer day that will collectively improve more than 2,802 miles of trail.

Trails have connected people in the Appalachians since long before Columbus and the Norsemen sailed to this continent, serving as migration routes for the Cherokee in our own backyard, and in some cases their footpaths have become modern thru–hike trails.
