Brevard High FFA Club Honors Winners, Officers

May 31, 2018

It has been a busy year for the Brevard FFA Chapter. On Thursday, May 24, the chapter held its annual end of year banquet. Not only did members celebrate the chapter's 90th anniversary, but they also recognized graduating seniors, CDE competitors and a new officer team.

Seniors Hannah Lemel, Daniel Toole, Selina Brown, Anna Bryson and Cheyenne Rathbone all gave their retiring addresses reflecting on how FFA has impacted their lives and high school careers.

Students and members were also recognized for multiple Career Development Events (CDEs) that they had competed in throughout the year. These competitions included dairy handlers, truck driving, forestry, vet science, livestock evaluation and dairy evaluation, Envirothon, horse evaluation, prepared and extemporaneous public speaking, creed speaking, introduction to horticulture, floriculture, tool identification and Quiz Bowl.

There were also three new awards presented to members this year. Matthew Skinner received the Star Greenhand Award, Daniel Toole received the CDE Superlative and Lily Harris received the Chapter Impact Award.

The chapter also installed a new officer team for the 2018-2019 school year. This team will consist of Courtney Meyer, Lily Harris, Maggie Morris, Jacob Smith, Bella Sztyber, Shade Wilbanks, Jasmine Gillespie, Matthew Skinner and Steven Arrington.

BHS FFA also recognizes and congratulates the Dairy Evaluation Team and the Envirothon Team. Both teams placed first in the state of North Carolina and will be traveling to Indianapolis, Ind. in October to compete at the national level. Good luck to them and Daniel Toole, who will be applying for a position on the N.C. State FFA Officer team at the beginning of June.
