Taxes And The Courthouse

Last Thursday evening, the Transylvania County Board of Commissioners agreed to increase the tax rate 2.5 cents to pay for a new county courthouse adjacent to the public safety complex on Morris Road. During the discussion, some highly questionable comments were made by some commissioners.

Commissioner Jason Chappell said some people are doubling or tripling the cost of the courthouse as a “campaign issue” and those people are lying about the costs. That is a misleading statement.
