Mary Helen Picklesimer, 95, of the Little River Community, died Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Tore’s Home in Brevard, where she had received care since March.

She lived by herself until December of 2017, when she was hospitalized at Transylvania Regional Hospital, then had rehabilitation at The Oaks.

She was the daughter of the late Arthur Picklesimer and Nell Hamilton Picklesimer. She was preceded in death by her brother, Harry Picklesimer, as well as her grandparents, 15 aunts and uncles, and 13 first cousins.

Survivors include 12 first cousins, cousins to the fourth generation, a host of former students who remember her lovingly and many loyal friends.

For 36 years she taught students in elementary grades in the Oak Ridge, Tenn. school system.

She graduated from Brevard High School, Brevard (Junior) College, and Western Carolina University (Teachers College). She completed graduate study at UNC Chapel Hill.

Through the years, she was part of Little River Baptist Church, Holly Springs Baptist Church, Brevard First Baptist Church and Oak Ridge Baptist Church.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at Little River Baptist Church Cemetery.
