As they wrapped up their Brevard Blue Devil baseball careers, a pair of seniors were recently named to the Mountain Six All-Conference baseball team.

Jay Smith and Matthew Kelley were the two all-conference selections for Brevard in 2018.

Both were leaders on the Blue Devils' squad, both in spirit and on the stat sheet.

Smith finished tops on the team in batting average (.443) and hits (35).

He also led the team in on-base percentage (.488) and was third with a .582 slugging percentage.

Defensively, Smith spent most of his time at shortstop, but was also a regular pitcher in the Blue Devils' rotation.

He made nine apperances for Brevard in 2018, going 4-3 with a 3.74 ERA over 33 2/3 innings.

Also earning an all-conference selection was Kelley, Brevard's catcher and leader behind the plate.

Kelley set a new career-high in batting average as a senior, hitting . 418 on the year with 23 hits and 10 RBIs.

He suffered a knee injury in the middle of the season that cost him six games, but didn't miss a beat when he came back, playing some of his best ball down the stretch.

Kelley signed with the Brevard College Tornados earlier this spring.
