Dorothy Wilson

Dorothy Wilson, the youngest of five children, was born in Bonham, Texas. Her father, a railroad telegrapher and agent, was transferred to Van, Texas, when oil was struck there.

Drilling equipment had to be shipped to Van; therefore, a short line was needed. Housing was to be furnished for the Wilson family. The housing, much to everyone's surprise, was a railroad car, which had been converted into a kitchen, living room and three bedrooms but no bath.

There were 250 people in Van but no grocery store, so Wilson's father quit the railroad and built a grocery store with a hous...
