I note a reader’s “bleating lambkins” missive about minors being separated from their families and being “ripped from the mother’s arms.”

Each day in the United States thousands of children are separated from their parents or from a single female parent by the American criminal judicial system in various kinds of hearings like bail, probation violations and sentencings.
