Brevard Little Theatre To Present 'Broadway Cabaret'

July 9, 2018

“Broadway Cabaret 8” opens July 19, and brings a collection of over two dozen Broadway favorites to the stage. This event is BLT’s major annual fundraiser and is vital to help keep live theatre active in Transylvania County.

“Broadway Cabaret” is produced and directed by Sandi and Mark Thompson who have assembled a talented cast of 17 performers. Under the tutelage of musical director and accompanist Tim Sheppard, the cast has been rehearsing for weeks.

This year, Brevard Little Theatre is partnering with the Voices of Justice Series as part of Project Empathy. This group is coordinating performances this summer to celebrate the impact of music and theatre on civil and human rights and promoting understanding and compassion. Many of the songs selected for this year’s cabaret follow this theme.

In addition to BLT’s “Broadway Cabaret,” other performances this summer include an evening of Bernstein at the Brevard Music Center and a presentation of the movie “13th” at Brevard College, in collaboration with the Center for Spiritual Wisdom. This is a documentary about the crisis of incarceration, particularly of people of color in America.

The cast includes returnees Mark and Sandi Thompson, their son Andy, Candice and Charlie Burchill, Hannah Krowka, and Veronica Brown. Newcomers to the cast include Sally Burnett, Christine Johnson, Nina Cuenco, Beth Norris, Anna Sisi, Maddie Johnson, Charlie Lusk, Bob Pompeo, Dylan Murray and Devan Stevens. Heather Denton will be the master of ceremonies.

“It’s always interesting to watch this event come together,” said Mark Thompson. “Once we decided to partner with the others in the Voices of Justice, including the NAACP and Brevard Music Center, we gathered our cast to brainstorm song and staging ideas. We generated a list of over 60 songs and pared it down to 25.”

Performances are July 19, 20 and 21 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 22, at 3 p.m. at Brevard Little Theatre, 55 E. Jordan St., in downtown Brevard.

The show will be presented cabaret style with the audience seated at tables of eight, and refreshments and snacks will be available.

Admission is $20 for adults and $12 for students and children. Entire tables of eight can be reserved for $160.

Reservations can be made by calling (828) 884-2587. Tickets will not be available online for this event.
