Residents and community members joined the Brevard Housing Authority (BHA) Friday, June 29, for the ribbon cutting of its new laundry and resource facilities during a community social event. BHA unveiled its new resident laundry facility and community resources room, both located in the main office. The new laundry facility offers a more convenient and affordable way for residents to wash and dry laundry, and includes three high-tech washers and dryers available to all BHA residents. Additionally, BHA has established a community resources room, which offers information on a variety of Transylvania County Resources, a classroom-like setting and free Wi-Fi.

Madison Dossey, the resident services and family self-sufficiency coordinator with the BHA, said the addition of the community resources room is an important one.

"With some residents lacking the resources necessary for general duties and activities, we wanted to offer a space that's accessible and functioning," Dossey said. "The BHA is expanding and is in the process of implementing a new program, of which the community resources room will play a vital role for resident success."

During the event Friday, residents and community members were invited to check out the new facilities and enjoyed a barbecue picnic and resources fair, where 12 community organizations were present to enlighten residents on services offered and answer questions.

The 163-unit Public Housing Development is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, and Rhodney Norman, BHA property manager, said, "It was the perfect opportunity to bring the community together to celebrate both an exciting addition to the community and a major milestone for the BHA and Brevard community."

This is the inaugural event in what the BHA hopes will become a tradition for them and their residents.
