July 9, 2018

A 16-year-old Charlotte female, H'Money Siu, died Wednesday after falling down the 150-foot-tall Rainbow Falls in Nantahala National Forest.

“We got a call for service right around noon, and finished about 6 p.m.,” said Bobby Cooper, public information officer for Lake Toxaway Fire Department. “We understand it was a large group from Charlotte who were here, and they were at the top of the falls, and her and her sister were in the water, and they both slipped. They were able to get her 11-year-old sister out but this one went over the falls. The ones we see in this situation are usually visitors.”

On June 23, a 42-year-old from Charleston, S.C., John Schaffer, died at Rainbow Falls after he tried to rescue his dog who fell in the water.
