Pumpkin Fest To Return To Brevard

July 16, 2018

Pumpkin Fest, a lighted carved-pumpkin Halloween spectacular, is returning to Silvermont Park in Brevard over three consecutive weekends in October.

Previously called “Pumpkin Patch and Revenge of the White Squirrels,” this year, organizers say, it will be better than ever, with a “beautiful display of lighted carved pumpkins in multiple scenes along the half mile, handicap accessible trail and additional festival activities.”

Families and visitors of all ages will enjoy the entertaining, elaborate lighted carved pumpkin displays, including “Under the Sea,” “Pirates’ Cove,” “Butterfly Garden,” “Ghost Circle Dance” and others.

Large and small white squirrels will roam the woods, and community actors will visit in Halloween costumes to help entertain visitors.

Small wooden white squirrels will be hidden along the path to provide a scavenger hunt for children and their families. Children will also enjoy storytelling, a photo opportunity with the white squirrel, coloring pumpkins and outdoor games.

Local musicians will provide music each night from 7-9 p.m., and food trucks and other refreshments will be available during the festival’s run on Oct. 12-13, 19-20 and 26-27.

This non-scary artistic Halloween festival is produced by hundreds of volunteers working with the Friends of Silvermont as a fundraiser for the park and mansion.

The 100-year-old Silvermont mansion will be open during the festival, and docents will share the history of Silvermont, and the public will get the chance to see the recently refurbished first floor of the mansion, with new floors, paint and window treatments.

The cost for Pumpkin Fest, which received a grant from the Transylvania County Tourism Development Authority, will be $5 per person.
