Chamber Plans Candidate Forum – Brevard NC

August 23, 2018

The Brevard/Transylvania Chamber of Commerce will host a candidate forum on Thursday, Sept. 20, at the library’s Rogow Room.

The event will start at 5:30 p.m. with the Board of Education race with candidates Joe Castro, Courtney Domokur, Marty Griffin and Richard Kimsey Jackson competing for two seats.

That race will be followed by the sheriff candidates, William Hemp-hill and David Mahoney. Up next will be the county commissioner candidates, Will Cathey, David Guice, Mike West and Davis Whitfield-Cargile, competing for two seats. The evening will finish with Norm Bossert and Chuck Edwards for the N.C. Senate District 48 race and Sam Edney and Cody Henson for the N.C. House of Representatives District 113 race.

The two state races will be combined in one panel. Tad Fogel, former broadcasting professional, will serve as moderator.

According to a press release, the Chamber of Commerce is an unbiased, non-partisan organization that hosts the annual candidates forum as a community service.

The event is organized by the chamber’s Governmental Affairs Committee. It is designed to provide citizens a unique opportunity to learn more about candidates and their platforms for key local and state races, according to the release.

Questions are selected in advance of the event by the committee, with the goal of obtaining relevant information from the candidates in a fair manner. Input from the public is welcomed.

Any resident who has a question to be considered for the forum should submit it via email to [email protected] by Monday, Sept. 10.
