Shooting Victim Critical, Suspect Sought - Brevard NC

Waybern Shelton, the 68-year-old victim of the Friday morning shooting incident in the parking lot of Cardinal Drive-In, was listed as in critical condition as of Wednesday morning, accor-ding to the Brevard Police Department (BPD).

Brevard detectives continue to follow up on leads and to accept tips from witnesses in the case.

At about 1:30 a.m., Friday, a suspect approached two people, including Shelton, in the parking lot after they closed the Cardinal Drive-In rest-aurant, according to the BPD.

The suspect robbed them, then fired a gun, striking Shelton in the upper abdomen.

The two victims returned to the restaurant and called for the police and paramedics.

They last saw the gunman running westbound from the restaurant.

The suspect is described as dark skinned, wearing dark clothing, including a dark hoodie and tight jeans.

The victim was treated at the scene for his injury and flown to Mission Hospital.

Assistance at the scene was provided by the Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office.
