New State Forest Will Be Unveiled - Brevard NC

Headwaters State Forest

The Conservation Fund and the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services will host an event Sept. 6 to celebrate the opening of North Carolina's Headwaters State Forest.

Located near the border of South Carolina, this new 6,730-acre state forest was made possible with funding from the U.S. Forest Service's Forest Legacy Program, through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), as well as state and private funding.

The protection of these 6,730 acres will help preserve and maintain water quality in the headwaters of the French Broad River, which flows 218 miles from Transylva...
