James Charles Jackson

James Charles Jackson, 66, of Acworth, Ga. and Oak Island, N.C., passed away Aug. 27, 2018.

He was born Aug. 22, 1952, in Philadelphia, Pa. to Jo Ann Woodward Jackson and the late James Charles Jackson Sr.

He graduated from DuVal High School in Lanham, Md .; Western Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science in parks and recreation management; and Georgia Institute of Technology with a Master of Science in building construction and facility management.

He began his career with the National Park Service while at Western Carolina, and served 40 years as a park ranger and facility manager at parks throughout the country.

He will be remembered for his easy-going demeanor, his commitment to excellence and integrity in all aspects of life, and his overall zest for living.

He loved working in our National Parks, being outdoors, camping, exploring historic sites and cemeteries, studying American and family history, traveling in his motorhome, riding his motorcycle, and particularly, visiting with his daughter and her family in Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Charles Jackson Sr., and his brother, John Woodward Jackson.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years Michelle Edwards Jackson; mother, Jo Ann Jackson, of Brevard; brother, William Alan Jackson; daughter, Laura Steedley; son-in-law, Kenneth Steedley; and grandchildren, Cheyanne Michelle and Kenneth James "Trey" Steedley.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
