The Transylvania County Public Health Department has confirmed one case of La Crosse Encephalitis virus this year, according to Tara Rybka, public health educator.

The Centers for Disease Control describes La Cross Encephalitis (LACV) as a virus transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected mosquito and claims that most cases of infection occur in the upper Midwestern, Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern U.S. Encephalitis is characterized as an inflammation of the brain.

While many people infected have no apparent symptoms, people who do become ill show symptoms of fever, nausea, vomiting...
