Don't Shortchange Hurricane Relief

During the aftermath of a natural disaster, the costs can easily overwhelm individual states. Hurri-cane Matthew did $4.8 billion worth of damage to North Carolina. In December 2016, the federal government appropriated $300 million for hurricane relief. In May of 2017, after the state asked for an additional $930 million to help repair, rebuild and relocate houses and businesses in 50 counties (half the state), the federal government responded with an offer of $6 million. It was a devastating slap in the face to people trying to rebuild.
