Fort Lauderdale High School senior James "Clark" Murray never imagined that his proficiency in mathematics would lead him to a remote jungle village in South Vietnam, close to the Cambodian border.

The son of a WWII anti-aircraft artillery officer, Murray entered Texas A&M University on an ROTC scholarship.

"At that time, A&M was more like a military academy," he said. "The school had been the leading provider of officers in WWII. Students that attended A&M had a head start when they joined the military."
