Massimino Encourages Youth To Persevere

For NASA astronaut Mike Massimino, the fourth time was a charm. Massimino, who was on two missions to repair the Hubble space telescope, flew as fast as any astronaut and inspired the role of George Clooney in the movie "Gravity," was rejected by NASA the first three times he applied to be an astronaut.

Massimino, who spoke on "Views from Space: Leadership, Teamwork, Determination" Sept. 20 as part of the J. R. McDowell speaker series presented by both Brevard College and the Transylvania County Library Foundation, was only 6 when Americans landed on the moon 49 years ago.
