Support Local

October 1, 2018

I was around town last week soliciting donations to help restore and maintain the historic Silversteen mansion at Silvermont park. One of the perks of an early donation was an invitation to set up a table at the annual Pumpkin Fest to be held Oct. 12,13,19, 20, 26 and 27. What I learned is that our local business and craftspeople are working long hours because many depend on their own sweat equity to keep their business and craft relevant, stocked and interesting. That said, I urge locals to shop locally whenever possible. I know it can be easier to go online, search for an item and place an order, but avoiding our local talent will contribute to a loss of good folks doing business.

Most of the vendors and craftspeople declined to put up a table on the Friday and Saturday nights of the Pumpkin Fest because they are overextended with staffing their business and craft. Solicitation for donations to renovate the Silvermont mansion will continue beyond the Pumpkin Fest dates, but I hope that our locals have a bountiful season.

If you are interested in supporting the mansion renovation, email Support local!
