Paying People More Is The Right Thing To Do

What if you work one or two or even three jobs and still don't make enough money to own or rent a decent house, or enough to make sure that your family is adequately fed?

That's the situation of many families in Transylvania County. They make minimum wage, which is $7.25 an hour in North Carolina. But they don't have enough for the basic needs of housing, food, reliable transportation and medical insurance.

The Living Wage Coalition of Transylvania County is working to change that. So far, 54 businesses and companies have been certified as living wage employers.
