Headwaters Outfitters has hosted clean-up days on the French Broad River for more than 20 years, and volunteers removed literal tons of trash every year.

Twenty years ago, the worst fear you had while bare foot in our streams and forest was broken glass, a pop–top or some rusty metal. Fast forward to today, when just this past week a portable meth lab was found in a suitcase at a public river access in Asheville.

My personal encounters seeing hazardous waste on our public lands and streams in Transylvania County from illegal drugs has increased over the past few years.
