German Group Sees U.S. Forest Practices Up Close - Brevard NC

Visiting foresters and scientists from Germany recently took a tour of public lands in Transylvania County, and other parts of the southeast U.S., to learn more about public and private land management.

Among them were a count, a baron, a member of the chancellor’s cabinet and the president of the German Forest Society.

Germans are no strangers to forestry. Dr. Carl Schenck, the founder of the first school of forestry in America, the Biltmore Forest School, was a German, and his legacy is upheld to this day in his native country.
