Last Tuesday as millions of Americans cast their votes in this year’s midterm elections, the body of an American, Major Brent Taylor, arrived at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.

Taylor, the mayor of North Ogden, Utah, was killed during an insider attack on Saturday, Nov. 3, in Afghanistan. On Tuesday, his wife and the oldest two of his seven children were present on his final return.

Death is a fact of war, but Taylor’s death should give us pause to reflect on the state of our military and the conflicts in which we are engaged.
