On Wednesday, Nov. 7, the sun shone brightly as a merry band of Brevard/ Transylvania Visitor Center volunteers and staff struck out on an "Accommodations and Attractions Tour" in downtown Brevard.

"Our volunteers are so interested in and committed to learning and sharing about our area," said Clark Lovelace, executive director of the Brevard/Transylvania Chamber and the Transylvania County Tourism Development Authority (TCTDA). "Over the years, the TCTDA has sponsored tours all over the county to acquaint visitor center volunteers with area accommodations and attractions. This year, we decided that a tour in our own backyard would be a smart idea. Visitor center volunteers greeted over 18,000 visitors to this area in 2017. The more they know about local treasures and resources, the more helpful they can be to our visitors. These tours give them firsthand knowledge."

The "Downtown Walking Tour" included the WNC Military History Museum, Number 7 Arts Cooperative, The Red House Inn, Transylvania Heritage Museum, Domokur at the Aethelwold, The Bromfield Inn, Silvermont Museum and The Inn at Brevard.

"We are truly grateful to all the host sites for welcoming our crew and sharing excellent information about their properties," Lovelace said.

Transylvania County residents are always invited to drop-in to their visitor center any time. On Thursday, Feb. 14. VISIT LOCAL Day will be held at the visitor center. VISIT LOCAL was created to encourage local folks to come to the visitor center to learn more about the community while they hear live local music and enter to win door prizes.

VISIT LOCAL is part of the "Wrapped Up in Transylvania" program, a series of winter events designed to promote the chamber's Transylvania True commitment to support all things local: neighbors, resources, economy.

If you are interested in volunteering at the visitor center, contact [email protected] or call (828) 883-3700. For additional information, visit http://www.brevardncchamber.org or http://www.explorebrevard. com.
