Are Commissioners Taking A Knee?

November 19, 2018

I just read the commission notes on their failure to renew the lease for the WNC Military Museum until 2021 while we seek funds to buy a new facility. The stated logic was to wait for the new commissioners to be seated. Translation: Wait so they can kill the museum and blame it on the new guys.

You know what really hurts us veterans more is the phony statements, “thank you for your service...” which we hear all the time. However, not enough thanks to keep the museum open.

There were more than 100 people in the museum to hear Western North Carolina veterans talk about their participation in D-Day 1944, in June.

We get upset by the NFL players taking a knee during the playing of the national anthem, but we veterans have just seen three commissioners take a knee in support of Western North Carolina veterans. It is time for all veterans, the VFW, American Legion, DVA and any other support group to attend the next commission meeting and ask the following question: ‘Do you support our veterans and support the continuation of the history which this museum tells, or are you taking a knee?”
