Outdoor Destination Hike: Sunburst Falls

This week's outdoor destination is Sunburst Falls, located right off N.C. 215. Sunburst Falls is found on the west fork of the Pigeon River and is named after the logging town that used to be downstream of the confluence of the west fork and the little east fork of the Pigeon River, in the Little Tennessee river basin.

The falls themselves aren't spectacular as far as local water falls go. The surrounding area certainly has more grand cascades, but the high elevation ecosystem makes this set of falls unique, as does the stone arch bridge. The falls sit at about 4,100 feet in elevation, ju...
