Holiday Season Kicking Off This Weekend - Brevard NC

November 29, 2018

Despite the risk of rain, this weekend kicks off the holiday season in Transylvania County with Twilight Tour and parades in Brevard and Rosman.

At 3 p.m., Saturday, is Brevard’s Christmas Parade, which this year has the theme of “Remembering the Past Embracing the Future” in honor of Brevard’s 150th anniversary. The parade begins at Brevard High School on Country Club Road and continues on Broad Street and ends at Brevard College.

At 4 p.m., immediately following the parade, is the Heart of Brevard’s Twilight Tour. The following are some of the planned activities:

•Music – Come hear music from Transylvania County School groups and community ensembles at the courthouse gazebo starting after the parade from 4-7:30 p.m.

•Lighting of the courthouse Christmas Tree just as it turns dark. Then, Mayor Jimmy Harris will read “Twas the Night Before Christmas.”

•Elf Workshop – Santa will be in the Elf Workshop with his elves at the Aethelwold building on Broad Street next to Steve Owen Real Estate. Free photos for children may be taken, along with free crafts for children sponsored by local schools and nonprofits

•Carolers – Come listen to and join in Christmas carols on East Main near Water Oak Suites. There will be more crafts for children and adults, as well as warming fires, hot chocolate and S’Mores.

•Carriage Rides – Take an old-fashioned horse-drawn carriage ride around town at East Main and Gaston streets. Children, $3; Adults, $5.

•Petting Zoo – More than a dozen different kinds of animals will be part of a special petting zoo on East Main Street. (This and the pony rides, however, could be impacted if the rain is heavy.)

•Pony rides will be available on East Main in front of Water Oak Suites and West Main near O.P. Taylor’s.

•Free S’Mores will be offered in front of D.D. Bullwinkel’s.

•Twilight Tour is really an open house for downtown Brevard. Many shops will be open late for shopping, with special treats and warm drinks for socializing.

On Sunday, Rosman hosts its own Christmas Parade at 2 p.m.
