School System Disposes Of Salads Because Of Outbreak - Brevard NC

Salads with a bright mix of colors and textures are a staple for many who eat healthy diets rich in whole grains, fruits and vegetables.

This week, local school cafeterias are missing salad options because of safety alerts from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), according to a press release from Transylvania County Schools (TCS) .

Starting Nov. 20, the USDA recalled all romaine lettuce nationwide due to concerns over an E. coli outbreak.

On Nov. 22, the USDA revised its alert to include only romaine grown in certain regions of California.
