Last Wednesday, Brevard senior Lillie Siniard signed her letter of commitment to join the cross country and track team at Montreat College. Siniard is pictured with coaches and administration.

For Brevard senior Lillie Siniard, running has been her life over the past four years.

Now, that journey will continue as Siniard signed her letter of commitment to join the cross country and track team at Montreat College last week.

Siniard has been a staple of the Blue Devils' success over her four years at Brevard.

Initially, Siniard said she was looking at other colleges, but the more she started looking at Montreat, it seemed like the best fit.

"This has been exciting. I didn't know I would go to Montreat. I was actually looking at going to UNC-Asheville as a walk on. I knew a girl that ran at Montreat who told me it was a cool school. So, I started looking into it and talked to (Montreat) coach Jason Lewkowicz, who talked to coach (Philip) Latter. Once I really started looking at Montreat and took a tour, it was a really nice school and I liked it."

Siniard said Montreat was able to offer her a nice financial aid package, but on top of that, she enjoyed the campus and the feel of the community.

"Montreat is really beautiful and it's very small. I also wanted to stay close to home," she said.

Siniard holds quite a distinguished high school running career, including being a member of Brevard's back-to-back state champion cross country team in 2015 and 2016.

She was named all-conference during her sophomore and junior season, earning all-regional honors as a junior.

Siniard has represented Brevard at the state cross country final each of her four years as a Blue Devil.

On the track team, she has made the state indoor finals for the 3,200 meter race four times and qualified for the outdoor state finals as a sophomore.

And all this from somebody who said they weren't even sure if they wanted to run in high school.

"I remember in middle school I didn't really want to run. Then I got to high school and coach Latter really helped me learn to love running," Siniard said.

Latter has made a knack of developing runners during his time as Brevard's coach and Siniard said she wouldn't be where she is without his guidance.

"He's really helped me get out of my comfort zone a little. Maybe a lot. And he's really helped me progress throughout my high school career," Siniard said.

As for academics, Siniard plans on majoring in communications and possibly minoring in wilderness leadership.
